Recommended Parent Rules
- Read and follow the Parent Code of Ethics...above.
- Follow the 24 hour rule with your son or daughter. Don't analyze your child's play or go over in detail how they struck out, missed a shot until 24 hours after the game. All of your comments should be positive or don't say them.
- Follow the 24 hour rule with your coach. Don't ask the coach about play selection or game strategy until 24 hours after the end of the game. Your thoughts and words will most likely be less driven by your emotions and so will your coach's responses.
- Before criticizing a volunteer coach make sure they are not following their Code of Conduct...above.
- Don't yell from the sidelines about a call or decision made by a referee. Address all comments about referees to your coach. All referees are trained to meet with the coach at half-time to discuss any concerns. Do yell encouragement to your child on the field.
- Don't drop your child off at practice and leave. Inform another parent and get them to agree to be the "guardian" of your child until you return...just in case you get stuck in traffic or are delayed.
- Don't send emails or contact the YMCA Sports Office without first trying to resolve your concern with your coach.
- Remember, our coaches are volunteers so don't be afraid to assist them in practice if you know more. Additionally, coaches have enough coaching chores without organizing the snack & drink schedule or the season-ending party. Step up and assist your coach as much as possible.
